My role as an Academic Advisor is to facilitate communication between myself and the student, to understand what his/her expectations and goals are, and to communicate what I can and cannot do to help the student achieve success.

I am also the coordinator of learning experiences for the student by not only advising in course selection but encouraging involvement on campus to help the student experience all that Auburn has to offer.  I function as an agent of referral for my advisees and can steer them in the right direction for all sorts of aid that Auburn offers from counseling, tutoring, and career prep services to athletic, scholarship, and service opportunities.

An advisor is like a navigator – she won’t take you where you want to go,

but she’ll give you the directions.

One of the best parts about being an Academic Advisor is helping my students when they need it most.  Whether it is being able to show a student that failing a class is a learning experience and not the end of the world, referring a student in crisis to much needed help, or simply letting a student vent and feel heard in a place where their words won't impact a professor's impression of them, knowing that I am making a difference in the success of the that student is so rewarding.
